Prayer As We Long For Visits and Interaction Wtih Others

Saturday May 30, 2020
Every day there are new announcements of more businesses, restaurants, parks and so on that can re-open, albeit in a new safe physical distancing way.  Our social bubbles are able to expand a little bit.  A couple of days ago my friend and I were able to go and visit her granddaughter and little great granddaughter on her first birthday in an outdoor patio visit.  What great fun that was.

I’ve been seeing pictures of local Care facilities who have constructed or set up “safe visiting rooms” for seniors to visit with their families.  I know where my mom is living they have arranged for more “patio visits” and that Mom is really enjoying seeing those who have come to visit her.

Jesus Christ left heaven to come to this world to widen the bubble of fellowship that has been enjoyed for all eternity between the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.  While we can’t fully get our heads around what it means that God is one and yet three distinct persons we know that God understands community and made us for community and fellowship.  We’re made in His image and He is a fellowshipping God.

God longed to fellowship with us and when humans sinned and broke the relationship with Him, God made a way to restore it.  Jesus came to earth, died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin, and then rose from the dead again to show that the power of God’s love is stronger than sin and that the penalty for sin is fully paid in Jesus.

Every day Jesus comes  to the door of our heart and asks to be invited in to share the day with us and fellowship with us throughout the hours of the day in whatever activities our day holds.

Look!
I stand
at the door
and knock.
If you hear
my voice and
open the door,
I will come in,
and we will
share a meal
together
as friends.
Revelation 3:20

The sad reality is that too often we don’t recognize Him.  We’re too distracted by our own plans or worries or the clutter of activities and thoughts that fill our hearts.  God will make our day so much better if we make space for Him.  Let’s do that right now as we pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us, for doing everything necessary for us to live in loving relationship with you.  Thank you for forgiveness for our sins that Jesus won for us on the cross.  Thank you for making us Your own children as we put our faith and trust in You.

Forgive us Lord for the many ways that we don’t recognize You when You come to us.  We are so focused on our own plans and agendas that we don’t hear Your voice when You try to show us a better way.  We are so wrapped up in our own worries that we don’t see how You are taking care of everything that concerns us.

He was in
the world,
and though
the world
was made
through him,
the world did not
recognize him.

He came to that
which was his own,
but his own
did not receive him.
John 1:10-11

Help us today, by the power of Your Holy Spirit to believe You – that You are our good father who cares for us and is providing for us.  Help us to live as Your beloved children.  We want to learn from what You are teaching us, be corrected in how You are showing us better ways to live and respond.  We want to take heart and find rest in the protection and strength You are providing for  us as our Heavenly Father.

We hear so many negative messages around us and even in our own thoughts sometimes, and today we pray to put on the identity You have given us – children of our Heavenly Father, made in the beautiful image of God.  Help us to welcome Your love, be aware of Your attentive presence and Your ears that are open to every word we speak to You.

Yet to all who
did receive him,
to those
who believed
in his name,
he gave the right
to become
children of God—
children born
not of natural descent,
nor of human decision
or a husband’s will,
but born of God.
John 1:12-13

We receive the light that You’ve come to our day to provide for us and we thank You for it.
We receive the faith and hope that Your Spirit is pouring into us that You are making all things good for us today.
We receive Your blessing today that keeps us safe and strong. Amen

May God’s face shine the light of His love into our hearts and fill us with peace and joy.
Amen
