Prayer To Keep Lines of Communication Open With God
Sunday July 12, 2020
COMMUNICATION
If there’s one thing that’s become common in our communities in these months of the pandemic it’s the regular communicating of politicians and health officials about what it going on and what plans they have for dealing with the virus.

They provide updates on how the virus is spreading, give clear guidelines for how we need to behave in order to minimize our exposure to the virus or becoming those who transfer the virus.
Regular and effective communication has been very helpful for all of us as we’ve navigated the various stages of the spread of the pandemic, the crushing of the curve, and what the re-opening looks like during the time until we have an effective vaccine. Even though some ideas, such as wearing face protection, have changed as time has gone along, there’s no doubt that those who speak in the briefings are seeking to provide accurate and useful information for the general public.
Our God has been in the communication business for a long time thankfully, every word God speaks is flawless. What God says doesn’t need to change over time. It’s accurate today and always will be. We can find safety and take refuge in what He tells us.
Every word of God is flawless;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Proverbs 30:5-6
Today I’m so glad we can come to God and receive any explanations that are necessary for our well-being today and also ask for guidance needed going forward. Let’s do that as we come before God now in prayer:
For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts
and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are speaking to us with clarity and helping us know exactly what’s going on in our thoughts and in our hearts. Thank You for how You speak to us as we read the Bible and how Your words of life sort us out and settle us down when life is chaotic and confusing around us. We need clear priorities and instructions in these uncertain times and You are providing them to us in Your word.
In the past God spoke to our ancestors
through the prophets at many times
and in various ways, but in these last days
he has spoken to us by his Son, whom
he appointed heir of all things, and through
whom also he made the universe. The Son
is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all
things by his powerful word.
Hebrews 1:1-3
It can sometimes be so easy to have our focus and our peace shattered by yet another piece of surprising and disturbing news but we’re thankful that every day Your love and Your power to work life-giving miracles in even the darkest and most difficult circumstances is offered to us through the life of Jesus Christ, Your son. You speak the depth of Your commitment to us in Him. You fill us with hope that nothing can overwhelm what You are doing and how You are sustaining all things in our world – certainly no virus can do that. You are working out Your purposes and lighting up our lives with joy and peace through Jesus.
And we also thank God continually because,
when you received the word of God,
which you heard from us, you accepted it
not as a human word, but as it actually is,
the word of God, which is indeed at work
in you who believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
Thank you for pastors and teachers and leaders who speak Your words to us and help us to hear Your voice more clearly. During these days when they have so many more challenges in their work of reaching out to people due to physical distancing restrictions , we pray you will help them effectively use the online tools that are available and at the same time not get so caught up in these new practices that the message gets covered up by the media.
All of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another,
be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or
insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing,
because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
1 Peter 3:8-9
Help us to effectively communicate blessing and encouragement no matter how challenging we find the verbal and non verbal communication we are receiving to be. We want to be people of grace and truth. So, fill our hearts with thankfulness and blessing and love so we communicate that in every way with everyone we meet. Speak Your heart through us today, we pray. Amen
