Step 12 - Carrying The Message By Practicing The Principles

Within each personal story of the journey from bondage to freedom is the power of our amazing God to save those who are lost. When we tell our story, our lives are simply giving witness to God’s amazing grace and mercy for us and through our own experiences, we get to point others to the pathway of their own healing journey with Jesus.  This is the “carrying the message” part of Step 12

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Jesus described the power of our witness and it’s impact on others with these words: 

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; to set at liberty those who are oppressed;” Luke 4:18

We do our best “telling of our story” by the way we now live and behave. When we start to share with others we need to be practicing, as best we can, God’s principles in all our affairs.  Others will not want to listen to us talk about God and how our lives were changed if our behaviour does not match what we say. 

God wants us to gain wisdom by putting into practice all that we have learned.  The journey ahead will always be one step at a time allowing God to keep us focused on His word as He brings us to the knowledge of all truth.

Let wise people listen and add to what they have learned.  Let those who understand what is right get guidance. Proverbs 1:5 

Jesus said others would know we are His disciples by the love we demonstrate towards one another and that’s the principle that is behind every other understanding of what life is meant to be today.

Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other. John 13:34-35

Heavenly Father, As our spiritual awakening continues to unfold and we get stronger and stronger with the help we receive from You, please give us grace and resolve to pass on to others what we have received. Help us to walk in humility and continue to learn each day as we practice these principles in all our affairs. 

May our lives reflect the joy of living life to the full as You have always intended, so others will gain hope and find strength to make their own journey to You and experience the transformation You want to bring to all of us.  Amen

Today’s challenge:  How did we make space in our lives to carry the message to someone else? And, a little check with ourselves about whether we are just talking the talk or really walking the walk.
