Freed From All My Fears
What are you afraid of today? What kinds of things easily make us fearful? What can we do so our emotions and behaviour choices are not controlled by our fears? God keeps it simple for us.
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
In whatever brings fear and dread, worry, anxiety - put whatever label on it that works for you - God invites us to pray. Tell God all about it - what we understand and what seems more complicated or more powerful than we are.
We put our will and our life into God's care when we bring all of our fears to Him and ask for His wisdom and His help. And I say again, it doesn't matter what the particular expression of that fear is or what triggered it. Many times we won't even know. We'll just start to feel "off" and then uncertain and then one fearful thought will pile on top of another one.
Wherever we are at in our experience of fear in this moment, God promises to meet us there, to give us strength, to give us love, and to show us a way to choose and act differently. Here's how I know that.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
It’s clear from these words that fears and worry and self-doubt do not come from God. “God has not given us …” So if we experience these things we can set them aside, God being our helper, and live outside of their influence.
Does that mean that we live in unreality and don’t believe or bother with legitimate challenges that are there to our livelihood, our relationships, the security of our future? Fortunately God is the one who is most focused on reality.
Instead of living in fear God wants us to give Him all our worries and trust His care for us.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7
Loving God, there are many things that we can easily worry about in our lives today and things that make us fearful. Lots of situations in our world that are out of our control contribute to a sense of insecurity and fear. But today we want to life with serenity in Your good care.
You’ve told us that You don’t give us fear so we want to surrender any fear we are experiencing to You and invite You to fill us with faith and peace.
Help us to fill our minds and hearts with truth so in moments where our security and peace are challenged we know what You’ve said that we can stand on with confidence. We want to live free from all our fears today. Amen
Free from all our fears – what a way to live. Let’s bring our fears one by one to God today and allow Him to do this amazing work in us.
