Completely Uncovered
Who knows us – like really well? Anyone we feel who knows everything about us?
I think there are folks who are closer than others and who have accompanied one another for a long time. I think about the couples they celebrate on our local newscasts from day to day who have been married for 60 or 70 years. They certainly know a lot about each other.
But is there anyone who knows everything about us – all our thoughts and dreams, our reactions, our disappointments, our secret joys, our longings? In fact, when we are feeling lonely and disconnected, whether we are surrounded by loved ones or not, that is often the question in our sadness isn’t it?
Well, I’m happy to report today that there is one who does know it all. That one is God. Look at this:
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13
Two things strike me as I think about these words. First, I’m so glad that God knows and understands what is going on in me so when I don’t quite know how to explain to Him and ask for what I need, He already knows and in so many cases, has already prepared a good way forward for me.
But the second is a bit more challenging, I think, and that is that God knows all those things that I will need to “give account for” because however hard we try to get it right, we blow it over and over again, don’t we? We may be able to hide it from folks but God knows.
That’s why I’m so thankful for Jesus, his death on the cross for my sins, His complete forgiveness offered for every wrong I confess to Him and turn away from.
Thank you God that you are the best companion a person could have both in sharing our joys and in offering solutions for our problems.
Help us to face whatever is going on in our lives – to give thanks for the good and to acknowledge what needs fixing and forgiving. Thank you for the comfort of your presence, your joy in being with us, and your provision of Jesus and His forgiveness for us so we can be with You forever. Amen
So, if we were each to do a little inventory of our life right now and see ourselves as God sees us, I wonder what we would give thanks for and what would need fixing? It’s worth a few moments of our time to reflect on that, don’t you think?
