Keep On Keeping On
Keep on keeping on – a lovely little slogan but I think it has a lot of practical wisdom to offer us today as well.
Our days are not always filled with new and exciting things. Conditions aren’t always what we would prefer. We’re sometimes feeling up and sometimes feeling down but through it all God is with us and is promising us everything we need today to make a good day whatever our “less than perfect” circumstances are.
God has set the example for us. He has kept on being with us and being for us through everything we’ve faced and will continue to do so.
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6
Today's challenge to each of us is to continue to do what is right – to keep on keeping on. Today's encouragement is that God is with us to help us do that when we find it difficult.
We have the example of Jesus who continued through misunderstanding, betrayal, arrest, torture, and cruel death on the cross – he did what was necessary for us. He continued through the toughest of times and so He understands what we are going through.
I’m reminded of those very familiar words about love that we hear at various times but they really give us a clear and practical picture of how to keep on keeping on.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Heavenly Father, We're so grateful that You work in all things for our good. We often wish our circumstances could be different than what they are but we simply stand still today and acknowledge that You are God, that You are working in us, and that as we surrender to Your will, You will continue to work with us and in us until the transforming work of your love is fully realized in us. If you can put up with us - with all our ups and downs - certainly we want to give ourselves to standing with you and standing up for You today.
Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. Hebrews 10:36
God, we're asking for that gift of endurance and perseverance to keep on keeping on, doing all that we should, and in all our affairs, to continue to do Your will. Amen
Each of these days is a gift we have been given with an opportunity attached to it. God wants to give us eyes to see what He’s doing, as well as our part, and to fill us with all we need so we can keep on keeping on.
