WHO’S ON CALL WHEN I NEED HELP?
We have a great prayer for today straight from the Bible. It reminds us that God is on call when we need help. Let’s look at this prayer a couple of sentences at a time.
Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. Psalm 86:1-2
It’s most likely when we are in trouble that we call out to God. We are desperate for His immediate attention. And the lovely part of it all, God is available to those who hearts are turned towards Him.
Now I have to say that I’m grateful that God is merciful because I don’t always find myself faithful to God and my trust can waver when circumstances challenge me. But, when we sincerely reach out to God, believe me, God is there for us.
Thank You God that you do hear us and answer us. Even though we are not always faithful to You, You are always faithful to us.
Okay, a couple more sentences of this beautiful prayer.
You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you. Psalm 86:3-4
Here’s where we encounter that mercy that I spoke about – receiving care and goodness from God, certainly not because we’ve earned it, but because God is a loving and merciful Father who cares for us.
And isn’t one of the great longings of our heart that we would experience joy? In a world where things don’t always go the way we would like and we see great suffering, it’s a longing we can bring to God.
Nothing gives us more joy, Heavenly Father, than when we experience your love for us in direct answer to our prayers, especially when we know we don’t “deserve” the goodness You give us. Thank You for listening, caring, responding, and giving us joy.
Ok, just a couple more sentences.
You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. Psalm 86:5-6
When we admit we have done wrong, mercy is available. When we confess the wrong we have done, God will forgive us and restore our joy
Loving God, Even when we’re not sure about Your ability to hear and answer our prayers, we can admit that to You and You will respond. You make this amazing promise to us that we hold onto today.
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3
So, let’s call out to God often today and find mercy and even joy.
