Tuesday, October 16, 2012 -- Dealing With Anger -- Who Understands My Anger?

Tuesday October 16, 2012

There is only one person who understands us through and through.  That person is NOT ourselves. That person is Jesus Christ who died for us, and waits to be invited into our lives so He can forgive us, heal us, and restore us to complete peace and wellness. He understands

What does God have to say about my being angry?
*      SHOWS FOOLISHNESS: People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. (Proverbs 14:29 NLT)
*      SAYS YOUR RELIGION IS WORTHLESS:  If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.  (James 1:26 NLT)
*      LEADS TO SIN:  An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin. (Proverbs 29:22 NLT)

What does God say about controlling my anger?
*      SHOWS GOOD SENSE:  Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. (Proverbs 19:11 NLT)
*      GOD WANTS ME FREE FROM IT:  In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.  (1 Timothy 2:8 NLT)

Am I still angry at someone for something they did a long time ago?  A few days ago?  What does God say I am to do about that?

*      DEAL WITH ANGER THE SAME DAY:  So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. (Ephesians 4:25-27 NLT)
*      GET RID OF ANGER NOW:  But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. (Colossians 3:8,12-12 NLT)

What's God's example to me about getting angry?
*        GOD IS SLOW TO GET ANGRY:  But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. (Psalm 86:15 NLT)
*        GOD IS ANGRY AT WICKEDNESS:  God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day. (Psalm 7:11 NLT)
*        GOD'S ANGER AGAINST POWERS NOT PEOPLE:  We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world. (Ephesians 6:12 CEV)

What will I do about my anger today?
