One of the places where we learn about God’s offer of loving relationship with us is through Step 11 in the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.



Step 11:  We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry it out.


The prayer and meditation to which Step 11 invites us is so much more than just trying to figure out what God’s plans are for us.  Meditation and reading scripture show us all that God promises to do and be for us.



Underneath all of these "spiritual exercises" is God's desire to confirm to us the heart of love He has for each of us, the heart that sent His son to die for us so that we might live forever with Him.  God knows the suffering we’ve gone through.  Every day of our lives, including the most difficult days, God has been close even though we weren’t conscious of His kind presence.  The only way we truly rebuild our lives is to live intentionally and consciously in the loving presence of our gracious God.



God offers us healing for wrongs done to us and forgiveness for our sinful actions and reaction.  God calls us to live and thrive in His safe love today.

The apostle Paul prays that we would come to know this great love. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  (Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV)
