Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.       Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Before we set out on a vacation trip, lots of planning has taken place.  We’ve decided when we will take the vacation from our work, where we will go, what route we need to take, and what we need to take with us.  We check the weather at our destination.  If we are travelling outside the country we check to make sure all our documents are in order.  If we plan well, even though unexpected situations may arise, we will have a great vacation.

As they travel, many people make use of a GPS device when they are travelling on unfamiliar routes.  It’s so convenient to plug in an address and have the GPS plan a route and then talk us through the journey.  It tells me which roads to take, how far I need to travel during each segment of the trip, and when to turn.  It even shows me an alternate route to get on track when I make a wrong turn.  I have a maps app on my smart phone and it’s a joke between myself and a companion as we check to see that we are “on the little blue line” – the journey plan that the GPS has marked for us to follow.

In our journey of life, only God knows all the details necessary for us to experience a satisfying life and get us to heaven, our eternal destination.  God desires to lead us day by day as we travel through this life.  God has every situation in mind as He directs us.  He even knows how to redirect us when we go astray from His good plan.

God has given us His Holy Spirit to be our travel companion and guide.  When the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen.  John 16:13 (MSG)

God has provided us with a master plan for our journey of life carefully written down in great detail.  This guide is the Bible, God’s word.  The Bible gives us all the information we need for any and every situation we will face.  Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
