Healthy Boundaries (1)

But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. (Psalm 3:3 NIV)
Persons who struggle with addiction are in many instances those who have been exposed to certain life situations where they were unable to express how these situations impacted them personally. Sometimes these events occurred when they were children and unable to correctly process, or reason, why they happened. Their boundaries may have been impacted by exposure to a type of negative life altering event through family breakdown, abuse, discrimination, bullying or any event that has put them in a situation of being forced to do something which did not contribute to their own well-being. When a person’s boundaries have been broken down, or have never been established, they learn to cope in whatever way they can. Our Heavenly Father is aware of the events of our lives and, when we accept Jesus into our hearts and bring these events before Him, He will help us rebuild safe and healthy boundaries and bring us to new life in Him.

A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. (Proverbs 25:28 NLT)
Defining and upholding personal boundaries leads to a healthy lifestyle. Boundaries help us live respectfully and safely in our relationships. They contribute to our peace as they eliminate resentful feelings which form when we do things that we do not want to and which do not contribute to our own well-being.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2 NIV)
God wants us to live well and encourages us to place healthy boundaries in our lives in order to live well under His care and protection.
