THE ROCK WON’T MOVE

Many of us turn to addictive practices when our lives seem fearful and unsteady.  We may have been raised in homes where trouble surrounded us.  Violence, illness, death, divorce, poverty are just some of the factors that impact us in ways that leave us insecure.  Our life choices may have brought us into situations where we were faced with traumatic incidents that deeply touched our lives.

God knows the deep need we humans have for a steady place to rest and be secure.  From ancient times God has told us over and over again that he would be a refuge for us.  God sent His only son Jesus to be a rock - a cornerstone - on which we can build our lives.

The Lord God says, “I will put a rock—a cornerstone—in the ground in Zion. This will be a very precious stone. Everything will be built on this very important rock. Anyone who trusts in that rock will not be disappointed. You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.  You believers are like a building that God owns. That building was built on the foundation that the apostles and prophets prepared. Christ Jesus himself is the most important stone in that building. The whole building is joined together in Christ, and he makes it grow and become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Christ you are being built together with his other people. You are being made into a place where God lives through the Spirit.   Isaiah 28:16 ERV, 1 Peter 2:4 NLT, Ephesians 2:20-22 ERV

A group named “Vertical Church Band” has recorded a wonderful song that affirms the great stability we have in life when we build our lives on Jesus Christ, the rock that won't move.

THE ROCK WON'T MOVE

When the ground beneath my feet gives way
And I hear the sound of crashing waves
All my world is washing out to sea
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of the truth
That You are holding tighter still to me

The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock of our Salvation

My hope is in the promise of Your blood
My support within the raging flood
Even in the tempest, I can sing
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth

That You are holding tighter still to me

Woah, woah
Woah, the Rock of our salvation

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
The Rock won't move, the Rock won't move
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest in His unchanging grace
The Rock won't move, the Rock won't move

("The Rock Won't Move", by Vertical Church Band, from the album "The Rock Won't Move")
