LIVING THE IMPOSSIBLE

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.  (Psalm 119:28 NIV)

God is always with me.  I need never face my problems alone.  Together with God any difficulty can be worked out and overcome. Do I really believe these words? What do they mean to me? Is there really a higher power to help me when I am facing problems?  With God, can EVERY problem be worked out and overcome?  Bring your troubles to the Lord, come before Him and ask Him for the help you need.  Because He is faithful to His word you can count on His help.

Answer my prayers, O Lord, for your unfailing love is wonderful.  Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful.  Don’t hide from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in deep trouble! Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies.
(Psalm 69:16-18 NLT)

On our journey to new life with Jesus, we often find ourselves in situations where the good life appears to be impossible. It seems as though we don’t have enough money, time, or training to walk the path that God has chosen for us.  Perhaps the kids are too much.  Maybe a welfare worker won’t co-operate.  Things are not happening as quickly as we would like or, even in the way we want.  There appears to be no end to the difficulties we encounter in relationships and elsewhere.  Many memories of broken promises and disappointments haunt us, both those experienced by us and those we caused.

I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. (Jeremiah 33:8 NIV)

The wreckage in our hearts and in our relationships seems a bit much – like overwhelmingly much!!  One at a time things may seem difficult enough, but put them all together and the challenge feels crushing.  With hard work we may have sorted out an issue or two, but then we look at all that remains to be done and the task seems pretty intimidating. We find life is emotionally draining and just too hard to cope with.  How do we keep ourselves from running and hiding or picking up and using to cover the pain?  How do we keep ourselves from entering into harmful relationships of the moment that seem to give us at least the comfort of sexual or emotional support? Who can help us, or how can we help ourselves?

The good news is the Scriptures assure us, God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  (Psalm 46:1 NIV)
