CAN A MOTHER FORGET A NURSING CHILD?

Many things can rob a child of his or her mother.  It might be addictions or destructive life habits. War and terrorism kill many mothers around the world.  HIV and other diseases leave many orphans.   Divorce and disability can rob us of time and nurturing interaction with our mothers. We don't always know why a mother has to leave her child in the care of someone else.  It's a heart rending situation, no matter what the reason.  God knows the depth of the pain and explains it to us in these words:

Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. “Can a mother forget her nursing child?  Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.   (Psalm 27:10, Isaiah 49:15-16)  NLT

God promised and made good on His word that nothing would separate us from His love.  He sent Jesus to earth to die on a cross and take the punishment for all sins committed that impact every human relationship.  The nails that went through Jesus' hands left marks that remind us that God's love goes deeper than any human abandonment.

Where do you and I experience the pain of father and mother not being with us?  God wants to meet us today at that place of pain and fill us with his tender and fulfilling love.  We can't make human relationships be more than what they are.  We have no control over other human beings.  However, the good news is that God is the one who gives life to us and sustains life in us.  God can fill up every gap area of our life where someone intentionally or not, let us down.  God offers to hold us close today.  God wants to pour in unconditional unending love that will fill and overflow our hearts. God has not forgotten us in our pain.  God has written our names on the palms of his hands.
