LIVING IN GOODNESS

What if each of us lived more like God and let goodness and love flow freely from us to others?  What if we were faithful to do everything we promised to do? How would our lives and the lives of those around us change if we were to do as God does?

Jesus said, “This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends.” (John 15:12-13 MSG)

The Bible tells us that God is consistently merciful, gracious, patient, and full of goodness and truth. However, sometimes we estimate that the events of this life suggest otherwise.  We often blame God for the bad things that happen in this world.  We blame Him for the unmet needs we or those around usexperience. “Where is God? we ask, when things go wrong.God desires that we come to know Him in such a way that, whatever happens in life, we will be certain of His unfailing love and the fact that He will never leave or forsake us.  God has promised that He will work all things together for good for us, even those past things that hurt us or things we regret that we did or participated inGod says “all things” and He means “all things”, not just “good things”.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)

God has a plan for good for each of us.  This plan will give us hope and a future in which we will prosper. A person who hasgoodness in His heart will naturally bring forth more goodness because what is in a person’s heart is expressed in what that person says and does.  The Bible tells us to diligently guard our hearts against anything that is contrary to the word of God.  If we live according to God’s commandments we will find joy andpeace in our lives that passes all understanding.

My child, pay attention to what I say.  Listen carefully to my words.  Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (Proverbs 4:20-23 NLT)

Today, are you willing to embrace God’s goodness in your lifeand let Him direct the way you should go?
