Under His Wings (1)

Late spring is a lovely time to watch young eagles in the nest as they grow under the care of their parents. There are live webcams set up in various places of the world, including locally here in the Lower Mainland. At any time of the day or night you can go the webpage and watch close-up video of all the activity going on in the nest. (www.hancockwildlife.org)
Sometimes, if you just watch the overhead camera the little ones look alone in the nest and vulnerable, but then with a push of another button you see from the wide angle camera that their mother is nearby carefully watching and waiting to do whatever is necessary to protect her young. It’s precious to watch the parent eagle tearing off little pieces of fish and feeding them to the young.

These events bring to mind some things God says in the Bible. Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. (Psalm 91:1-4 NLT)

God invites us to live in relationship with Him where He makes a place of refuge and safety for us. Too many of us, for too long, have sought to figure out life on our own and manage our own affairs. This is to our peril for we need someone who is wiser than we are to rescue us from various traps and difficulties that could overwhelm us. Just as a mother bird cares for the little ones, so God offers to care for us and shelter us.
Let’s give ourselves to God today and receive all the protection and provision He is able to give us. Let’s live safe and at peace in God’s good care.
