Life Without God (4) Water And The Creator

Thursday September 4, 2014

Water is a very simple substance. It is colorless, odorless, and without taste, and yet no living thing can survive without it.  Plants, animals, and human beings consist mostly of water.  The human body is two thirds water.

In spite of its simplicity, water is amazing and its properties point us to the God who created water, gathered water, and continues to gather and disperse it over the earth.

God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.”  And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens ... Then God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” And that is what happened.  God called the dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” (Genesis 1:6-7, 9-10)

Water is a universal solvent. This property of water means that various chemicals, minerals and nutrients can be carried throughout our bodies and into the smallest blood vessels.

Water is also chemically neutral. Without affecting the makeup of the substances it carries, water enables food, medicines and minerals to be absorbed and used by the body.

Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish can live in the winter.  Water in the root of plants FLOWS AGAINST GRAVITY, giving water and nutrients to the top of even the tallest trees.

Even though 97% of the earth's water is in the oceans and is salt water, yet in God's good plan evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaves the salt behind, and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind to disperse the water over land for vegetation, animals, and people.  This planned system purifies, supplies, recycles, and reuses water in a way that sustains life across the planet.

I know the greatness of the Lord—that our Lord is greater than any other god. The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses.  (Psalm 135:5-7 NLT)

Random compound, random process of gathering and dispersing OR intelligent design and careful control?  Which makes more sense?
