Key To The Kingdom Of Heaven

Have you ever thought how important keys really are for those of us who hold them? We hold keys to all sorts of things. Keys to open doors to our homes, keys to our cars, keys to desks, keys to locked boxes and all sorts of things that we want to secure from others. Even some of our diaries have keys so that no one has immediate access to read what we write. Losing keys raises all sorts of problems when we misplace them. We may be locked out from our homes, our cars or our desks etc. causing us frustration because we cannot gain access.
In the Bible we read that God locked up everyone under sin, and there was no key for relief from it, until the appointed time when Jesus came into the world.
But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (Galatians 3:22 NASB)
Being without keys is one thing, but not having the right key is another. The key to the lock on our front door will not open the desk we may wish to access. The key which starts the engine to our car will not open the door to our home. When we have the right key we have access to the thing it was made for. Sometimes we may try very hard to fit the wrong key in the lock to our front door. No matter how much effort we put into twisting and turning and trying to turn the lock, it will not open to us because it is not the right key. We need to have the right key to the thing we want to open.
God has put eternity into the hearts of mankind but in order to have eternal life we need to know the one who has the key. Jesus said I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. (Revelation 1:18 NIV) Now if Jesus holds the keys to death and hell I think we need to pay attention to what He has to say because He is the only one who has the key – the right key.
Jesus also said “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 11:25-26, 14:6 NIV) If we want to have eternal life with God in the Kingdom of Heaven we need to have the right key. We need to ask ourselves today, “Do I have the key which will open up the door for me? If not, then why not? The key is available by believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Today, let’s ensure that we have the right key.
