Faithful In Love (1)

Our society is becoming increasingly self-centered.  People quickly discard spouses, friends, and promises if they have outlived their usefulness.  Faithfulness seems to apply to only one person -- me.  We want others to be faithful to us and to be dependable to do what they have said they will do.   But, what measure of faithfulness would others attach to us?  How faithful would God say we have been to Him?
Faithfulness means to be trustworthy and reliable.  Because God is faithful He desires this quality in His children.  God calls us to faithfulness by first being faithful to us.  When the Spirit of God helps us develop the attribute of faithfulness the result is quite different from trying to develop it on our own.  God responds to our prayers -- even our complaints -- and is compassionate to meet all our needs.  His ultimate purpose in doing so is to demonstrate how He is faithful in fulfilling all His promises to us, and to help us desire to be faithful and obedient to Him in all our ways.

This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. (Lamentations 3:21-26 NIV)



Faithfulness demands holding fast to God and allowing Him to be our steady place rather than being knocked about by circumstances and the actions of others.  God is faithful to bring us to this steady and contented lifestyle if we will surrender our choices and our actions and fulfill His plans and purpose for our lives.  God is faithful and is longing to demonstrate His faithfulness to the world through us, His faithful disciples.
