Equipped For Growth (2)

When we seek God for help in our recovery, we will find that He has already provided principles to equip us for growth.  We do not have to guess at what will help us succeed, we just have to read His word pertaining to our situation and persistently follow His instructions.

My child, pay attention to what I say.  Listen carefully to my words.  Don’t lose sight of them.  Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. (Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT)

In the Bible we read that after the death of Moses, a young commander named Joshua set out to lead the Israelites into the land that God had promised to their ancestors.  As he started his journey God gave him instructions which are timeless for all who set out on a new path, including us.

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth;  meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:8-9 NIV)

God has said that He will guide us and help us grow.  Our part is to seek to know God, to learn God’s ways, and then to follow God’s plan.  How do we do that? As we learn about God in the Bible and put our trust in Jesus, God’s Holy Spirit comes to live in us. The Holy Spirit helps us know and understand God’s ways.  Our own information and understanding is limited and so we allow ourselves to be trained by the Holy Spirit in new ways of doing things with the tools God has given us.  As well as using the tools provided we need to regularly consult our teacher and counsellor, the Holy Spirit, to ensure we are using them properly.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.  (John 16:13 NLT)

Today, let’s use the equipment God has provided to help us grow in His grace and truth.
