Ordinary Lives The Christmas Story
Tuesday December 22, 2015

The coming of Jesus to our world to reconcile us to our Heavenly Father is a powerful witness to the truth that our seemingly commonplace lives really do matter
For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory. What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? (Romans 8:29-31 NLT)

God knew us before we were knit together in our mother’s womb. He created us with a purpose for our existence. It is this individual attention and affirmation of our planned existence by the God who loves us, that gives meaning and purpose to our lives. God had a complex redemption plan when He sent Jesus to earth as a baby. He also has a purpose and plan for each of our lives. We may not fully understand what God has planned in advance for us but, we know they are plans for good and not for disaster, plans for hope and a future with Him.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:16 NLT)
At Christmastime we celebrate the event of Jesus being born into this world. God chose simple people like Mary and Joseph to care for His beloved son as an infant. Mary and Joseph did not know the full plan of redemption that God had in mind but, they were willing to do what God asked of them. God shared the message of Jesus’ birth with ordinary shepherds just doing their job on a cold night in Bethlehem.

We are ordinary people and yet God has done great things for us as well. We are loved. We are rescued from the loneliness, darkness, and hopelessness of addiction by faith in Jesus Christ. We are empowered to be witnesses of this message of hope and healing through Jesus with our words and with our life. Our story of the transformation of our ordinary lives through God’s love and grace can be an extraordinary gift to our family and friends this Christmas season.
