Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin. (Romans 4:7-8 NLT)
This week we have looked at why we feel guilty about our past sins and allow our joy to be quenched. The Bible tells us the evil one wants to steal our peace. He brings up our past and condemns us for actions and events which God has already forgiven. Regardless of what he may bring up, we need to stand firm on the truth that we have been freed from the penalty of sin by the precious blood of Jesus.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. (Romans 3:23-24 NLT)
We all have committed sin and the righteous judge of the whole earth has determined that death is the sentence according to the law. However, instead of handing us over to death, God, the righteous judge gave His beloved son Jesus to die in our place. The death of Jesus for our sin paid the just requirement of the law in full. The writ against us is stamped “acquitted by the precious blood of Jesus”.

A lawyer might try to come back with our files and accuses us of the same sin over again. While he may cause us a lot of grief as he tries to have the case reopened, the righteous judge will not hear the case because the penalty has been paid and the case is closed.
There is also a written document stating, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 NKJV). The accuser may be an annoyance to us but we are free to walk away from him at any time and uphold our freedom.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Surely even now my witness is in heaven, and my evidence is on high. (Romans 6:23; Job 16:19 NKJV)
From today and each day going forward, the nail imprints on Jesus hands are clear evidence that we are set free and the Bible assures us, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36 NLT)
