August 8, 2016 The Joy Of Being Honoured

Monday August 8, 2016

Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all.  In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:12 NKJV)

It is nice to be told that we are appreciated for something we have done or achieved. Our desire, even as children, was that our parents would value and honour us for who we really were.   If they neglected our basic needs or caused harm to us in some way, we lost respect for them.  As the years passed, we withdrew emotionally or physically from them and started to seek our worth elsewhere. We got lost in a desperate search for affirmation and approval and too often did things that were not honourable.   We lived each day in self-centered interests.

At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you.  I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles.  I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame. (Zephaniah 3:19 NIV)

Now that we have come into recovery, we need to regain the worth God says we have and live in that truth.  Too often we still turn first to people around us to meet our need to be honoured.  That’s an impossible and unrealistic expectation.  Only when we see ourselves as God sees us can we know our true value and have self-respect.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God!  How vast is the sum of them!  Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.  (Psalm 139:17-18 NIV)

God created us in His own image and we are valuable because of the love He has for us.  The amazing designer of this incredible universe in which we live loves and cares for us.  Is this not “Good News”?
