PRAYER FOR JUST AND GENEROUS DECISIONS IN THIS COMING OUT OF ISOLATION STAGE OF THE COVID-19 RESPONSE

Loving God, in accordance with Your instruction, we pray today for the leaders of our nation of Canada, and leaders of all nations and all those in authority so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

A country has many rulers when its people don’t obey. But an understanding ruler knows how to keep order.   Proverbs 28:2

God, we've prayed for our leaders at other points in this COVID-19 pandemic season but we want to continue to ask Your blessing on them and Your help for them. In many places we are "at the end of Stage 1 and entering Stage 2" of this pandemic and so we're asking for Your guidance and empowering for them in this new season.

We ask that Your Spirit will call out to them today and help them to pay attention to Your voice and Your instructions.  We've seen far too many examples of leaders who are wise in their own eyes and they not only brought trouble on themselves but on their people as well.  There are so many things to consider as they figure out the best time to lift restrictions and allow people to go back to work. Lord, their decisions in some ways have the power of life and death in their choices so we ask Lord that they would be guided by justice and wisdom rather than political gain or influence peddling by anyone in their circles.

You've also told us in Your word that when godly people win, everyone is happy but when sinners take charge, everyone hides.  And so we pray for our leaders to be Godly in their thinking, their organizing, in their planning, in the voices that they listen to, in the timing of each stage of the re-opening of society.

When godly people win, everyone is very happy. But when sinners take charge, everyone hides.  Proverbs 29:12

The issues they fact today are so complex and challenging and require the expertise of many and so we ask that as committees and task forces and groups of people meet togther to talk and to sort out timetables and solutions, that they would have respect for the input of one another, that they would work together and each operate in the gifting that they bring to the table so that every constitutincy and every economic group represented has a fair hearing and procedures and support they require on the front lines

Even King Solomon who was a leader of his people told us things about leaders such as:
A ruler who treats poor people badly is like a pounding rain that leaves no crops.  Proverbs 28:3
or
An evil person who rules over helpless people is like a roaring lion or an angry bear.  Proverbs 28:15
or
A ruler who is mean to his people takes money from them by force. But one who hates money gained in the wrong way will rule a long time.  Proverbs 28:16

With all the competing forces that politicians face today and demands and pressure from so many industries, socio-economic groups, and geographic regions we pray that justice and mercy will prevail both in the help given and the help requested.  Once again as we did one other time, we pray for a stop for anyone who is seeking to gain illegally from the help that is offered.  We pray against greed and for generosity to be expressed so that both those we've traditionally called "the haves and the have-nots" can live in respect  and with adequate provision.  Help all of us to carry forward a perspective that sees Your kingdom and Your righteousness first, trusting that You will add in everythnig else we need.

It is better to be poor and live without blame than to be rich and follow a crooked path.   Proverbs 28:6

Turn the hearts of our leaders to truth.  Forgive their sins.  Heal our lands.  Bring revival to Your people across the face of the earth so many are saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.  Amen
