Step 11 - Getting To Know God Intimately

We know that some friendships grow in closeness as two individuals come to a place where they realize they know some things about the other person but now desire to have a more intimate relationship so they move down one path together going forward.

This is what we seek as we put Step 11 into practice in our lives.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry it out.

We have come to understand some things about God, but now desire to have a more intimate relationship with Him, so we can discover the plans He has prepared in advance for us to do and work out those plans with His guidance and support. 

God addresses us about this in the Bible when He says:

This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17

The only way we move beyond being someone’s acquaintance to really getting to know them intimately is by spending time with them letting them reveal themselves to us. 

God knows all about us, but until we meditate on His word as recorded in the Bible, we will be unaware of how much He loves and how much He delights in us because we want to know Him and follow His principles in all our affairs, even when we don’t always get it right. 

The Lord shows us how we should live, and he is pleased when he sees people living that way. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord reaches out to steady them. Psalm 37:23-24

Spending time with God each day and living in His presence will delight God’s heart and bring peace to our own.  This is not to say that we will never have any problems for Jesus said we would have troubles in this world, but we were not to fear, for through Him who loves us we would have the strength to persevere to victory. As we grow in our relationship with God our faith will grow and we will choose to follow Him in all our ways.

Loving God, We want to draw near to You for You are the source of all that is good in our lives.  We know that only in relationship with You are our lives complete.

Help us today to get to know You better both by learning how wonderful You are, and by putting Your principles into action so we more and more see demonstrations of the truth that is in everything You say. Amen

So two parts to today’s challenge:  the first is to admit that there is more about God’s ways and God’s goodness for us to learn about, and to take some time to do that.  The second is be very intentional about putting these principles into practice in all our affairs.
