Step 11 - Desiring More Conscious Contact With God

The God who knew us before we were even formed in our mother’s womb watches over us and draws us to Himself.  The choice of coming close to God rests with us.

In Step 11 we purpose to improve our conscious contact with God so we can understand more about God and how He interacts with us.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

And when we do that, we have this wonderful promise from God’s Word:

So obey God. Stand up to the devil.  He will run away from you.  Come near to God, and he will come near to you. James 4:7-8a

God cares about us and the things that matter to us.  The God who created the universe gazes on us with love and delight.  God wants us to know how precious we are to Him and to see ourselves in the light of His love.  The greatest demonstration of how precious we are to God is that Jesus gave His life that we might be reconciled to God and live with Him forever.  Are we living in conscious awareness of this great love?

If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault.  God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.  Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.  God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world.  He sent his Son to save the world through him.  James 1:5; John 3:16-17

As we become familiar with God’s character and ways and make them the foundation for our daily living we will become more and more aware of the loving and uplifting presence of God in our lives.

Heavenly Father, We want to improve our conscious contact with You so we can know You more.  Please give us the wisdom and the power to follow Jesus in all our ways. We welcome You into our lives to guide us as You reveal Your will for our lives. We are grateful that you give us the desire and power to carry out what You have prepared for us to do.  Amen

So today’s challenge is to take time, and particularly through prayer and meditation, to get to know the good things God has planned for us and then shape our lives around His life-giving principles.  As we act each day on what God teaches us we become more and more conscious of how well His ways work in all our relationships.
