How To Have Peace And Lots Of It

Sunday August 17, 2025

We all want peace and lots of it and we are assured of it when we make a choice to love God’s instruction.

The people who love your Instruction enjoy peace—and lots of it. There’s no stumbling for them! Psalm 119:165

These words from God promise us a serenity and protection from spiritual and moral stumbles and the chaos they bring. We seem to be promised a solid foundation in an insecure and changing world, don’t we.  Sounds pretty inviting to me.

So then the big question for us is, “What does it mean to love God’s instruction or as some translations put it, God’s laws?”

It seems to me that to love something is to know what is on offer and to want it.  It's why people spend time reading God’s Word on a regular basis, attend Bible studies with other believers in order to get a better understanding of what they have read, and show up in church on a regular basis to hear someone give a talk, a sermon, a homily (whatever label they use in your church) to help them know what God is saying and what we should do about it.

But underneath it all, I think, I think a huge part of loving God’s instructions is that humility of heart we need to have that recognizes that God knows things we don’t and we would do well to learn from Him.

What’s my heart attitude today towards God’s instructions?  What actions am I taking to show that I want to know and live more along God’s lines for successful living?

And if we find that we’re falling short, God even invites us to ask Him to give us more desire and willingness.  How’s that for a kind and caring God.

And so, Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your wonderful instructions, clear guidance, and calming presence that allows us to welcome truth in very practical ways into our lives.  Teach us today, we pray.  Help us to recognize what You are telling us and please increase our willingness to put every instruction into practice today and every day.  And thank You for Your promise of peace – great peace – when we do.  Amen

So let’s love God’s instructions today and receive the great peace He promises – and lots of it.  Have a great day.
