Wednesday, July 31, 2013 -- Real Trouble (1)

Wednesday July 31, 2013

Daily living presents plenty of challenges that we must face.  God is with us to comfort and strengthen us in our time of trouble.

God also wants to help us avoid unnecessary difficulties.  The Bible teaches us about a number of thoughts and behaviours that will result in trouble.  We would do well to believe that God knows what works in life and do that.  When God says something is harmful, it makes sense to believe Him and avoid that kind of thinking or behaving.

1.  Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.  Hebrews 12:15 (NLT)  Where do I notice bitterness, hatred, or resentment in my relationships?  God wants to help me root it out today, if I am willing.  Is it easy?  NO.  Is God able to give us the healing and strength we need to go forward.  YES.

2.  These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil.   1 Timothy 6:5, Romans 2:9 (NLT)  What do I do today that is contrary to what God has said in the Bible?  If I continue with behaviours based on my own twisted thinking, I am choosing for evil and it will result in trouble for me and others around me.

3.  People who wink at wrong cause trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace. People who despise advice are asking for trouble; those who respect a command will succeed.  Proverbs 10:10 Proverbs 13:13 (NLT)  From the time we are born, God gives us people to teach us how to live well.  Our parents, pastors, teachers, mentors, and sponsors are gifts from God who encourage us and give us helpful advice so we can avoid trouble.  In spite of the advice and help we have been given, if we then go and do our own thing, we are just asking for trouble.
Lord Jesus, help me today to listen to your voice as you teach me your way.  Give me a heart that longs to do what is right and courage to follow you as you lead me in the paths of righteousness.  Then I know I will experience the goodness and mercy you promise me every day.
