Accusation And Condemnation (1)
Thursday August 22, 2013

Many people are negatively impacted by accusation and condemnation. We hear words that tell us how stupid we are, what a failure we are, what a bad a person we are, and how we just are not getting life in recovery or life with God at all. We begin to believe our circumstances are too hard, we’re too messed up, something hurts too much, or it costs too much to change. One of the devil’s favorite tactics is to get us to make a mistake and then immediately pile on the negative talk inside our head or add to the negative words of others around us. His one purpose is to get us so confused, so filled up with pain and shame, so despairing that we simply give up and go out and use.

Today, and every day, the devil is looking for a way to accuse us about something. It doesn't matter to him what it is. If we are doing well he'll remind us of times in the past when we did poorly or, he'll get us thinking we are proud and self-righteous when we are simply enjoying the satisfaction of doing well in God's sight. More frequently, however, when we are doing well the devil's tactic is to eat away at it through showing us how we aren't perfect, how there's more we could have or should have done.

How comforting and healing it is to know that God is aware that on this journey we will make mistakes and that He's prepared forgiveness and healing in advance, all offered within a loving and accepting relationship.

If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth …. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us …. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. (1 John 1:8, Romans 5:8, 1 John 1:9 NLT)
