ADDICTION OR GRACE (1)

God created the heavens and the earth and set them to run on certain laws.  Gravity is one of those laws. When someone pushes a bag of trash into the garbage chute they can't see the law of gravity but they can hear the bag hit the bottom so they know that it is operating.  In the same way, the existence of love and grace are evident in those whose hearts are turned towards God.

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.  (2 Peter 1:2-3 NLT)

God created humans in His own image and therefore we are created in love.  Whatever is broken around us and in us is the result of our failure to know and respond to the foundational love of God.  It was, and continues to be God's plan for us to know a fulfilling relationship with Him.  Through the death of Jesus, God reconciled all things in heaven and on earth to Himself.  That includes all of the universe, all people, and all relationships.  Because of God’s unfailing love for us, we can then begin to love and care for people and our environment with kindness and respect.

The difficulty in our society today is that many people try to fix human behaviour and educate people to live with respect for one another and the environment without any input from the God who created both.  Depending on what each of us actually believe and do, we will either continue to live destructively in our addictions or choose to begin a new life in the satisfying grace of God who loves and cares for us.  Do you believe our world and our lives are shaped by the love and amazing grace of God which overflows to us and touches everything around us?
For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. (Colossians 1:19-21 NLT)
