Sunday Psalm Who Cares For Me

When we entered a recovery program we may have looked around at the program staff and wondered why on earth they would choose to help us.  In the chaos of our addictive lifestyle there was no one who seemed to care about us.  Most of those we encountered were like ourselves, seeking only what they wanted from life and caring little about the impact they had on others.  When we came to acknowledge that on our own we were powerless over our addictive lifestyle, we sought help from people who were known to assist individuals like us in finding freedom from addiction.

I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought!  No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.  Then I pray to you, O Lord.  I say, “You are my place of refuge.  You are all I really want in life.  Hear my cry, for I am very low.  Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.  Bring me out of prison so I can thank you.  The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me.” (Psalm 142:4-7 NLT)

The writer of the above Psalm felt that no one was giving him a passing thought and then he prayed to the Lord.  Often that is how life seems to us when we realize how far we have fallen.  What brought us to where we are is too strong for us to handle alone and there’s no one to help.  We need to be rescued from the powers that keep us in bondage. When we become willing to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God and say to Him “You are all I really want in life” we find the help we need to live free from our addictions and dependencies.

As we seek God’s help and surround ourselves with Godly people, we will know the goodness of God to bring us out from the prison of our destructive lifestyle.  Then we will give thanks to God that He is truly the one who cares for us.

Heavenly Father, Thank you for rescuing me from the dark power of Satan and bringing me into relationship with You and others who help me.  I am forever grateful that You care for me.
