Putting On The Protection God Provides

We live in a time where there are wars and conflicts breaking out or just continuing their endless destruction and suffering.  Various groups of allies call on one another for finances, equipment, or even personnel to help them move forward to their goal.

We may not see the war that is going on in us or around us – the one for our soul – but there is certainly one happening. 

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

When we face difficulties and attacks we are meant to turn to God, who has proven that He has power over all evil and that He cares for us. God provides equipment and manpower to help us just as one country helps out another in their time of conflict and war. 

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11

For he commands his angels with regard to you, to guard you wherever you go.  Psalm 91:11

Sometimes the enemy of our soul comes in the form of temptation to act with self-will.  At other times it’s accusation, condemnation, lies about who we are, how God views what we’ve done, and the future God has planned for us. Here’s how Jesus described him for us:

He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44b

God wants us to be strong in Him today and lean on His strength in order to come through difficulties, attacks, and disappointing setbacks.  How are we meant to live that out?  Put on the full armor of God.

So for the next few days we are going to look at these wonderful tools – this armor of God - and ask ourselves what it means to put that armor on.

But for today, we thank You God for watching over us, for knowing what we are about to face, and for preparing in advance all we need to be safe and victorious.

Help us today to stay in touch with You, listening to Your direction, following Your ways, and leaning on You when we encounter difficulties within or around us.

Help us to get to know the truth You are speaking to us so we recognize the lies of the evil one right away and to surrender our mind and hearts to those truths even when it hardly seems possible they could work for us in the moment. 

You don’t lie and You will not be defeated.  We praise You and surrender our will and our life into Your care. Amen
