April 30, 2016 Trusting That You Will Make All Things Right

Who can we trust?  Who's reliable?  Who tells the truth?  Who has the strength and the ability to carry out the things they promise us?  These are the questions we wrestle with in recovery after coming out of addiction where truth and dependability were almost non-existent in our behavior and in the behavior of those around us.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)

God has a plan for us to give us hope and a future. God also has provided a way for us to proceed towards this goal.  Through each step of the journey, we will be enriched by His goodness and mercy.  We don’t have much history with God in early recovery and everything is not instantly the way we’d like it to be, so we may be unsure how to proceed from here.  Our own plans haven’t done much for us in the past.  Perhaps it’s time to take a risk and surrender to God’s will, trusting in His great and precious promises to give us hope and a future.

Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.  (Psalm 37:3-4 NLT)

Trust in God is foundational for building trust in relationships and for enjoying a satisfying life.  We need to make wise choices each day and find out what God’s ways are.  We need to be obedient to what we have learned and, with faithfulness and integrity, live it in our families, in our work relationships, and in our friendships.  As we do, we will find that God makes all things right in ways than we could never have hoped for or imagined.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  (Romans 15:13 NIV)
