Step Three - My Will and My Life In God's Care

Step 3 - TURNING OVER MY WILL AND MY LIFE

We’re looking at Step 3 of the 12 Steps:  We made a decision to turn our will and our life over to the care of God as we understood Him.

What does that look like in practical way? I think these simple words from the Bible help us.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.  Romans 12:1-2

God knows our hearts and when we are sincere about living a new life in the power of the Holy Spirit, it delights God’s heart. God is patient and kind and has compassion on us when we are feeling weak about obeying His word.  If we ask Him, He will help us.  He’ll show us how to think and behave and we may be surprised by what that looks like

So many who have walked this journey before us tell us that it’s important to read some of God’s Word found in the Bible every day – there are lots of apps and websites and meditation booklets to help us. We need ask God to help us understand what we are reading, take some time to think about what we’ve read, and then ask God to help us put those principles into practice.

Every word of God is perfect.  He is like a shield to those who trust in him.  He keeps them safe.  Proverbs 30:5

Heavenly Father, Our minds may not be in tune with Your word in every area all at once, but we are grateful to have Your mighty Power working in us to help us get to know and do what pleases You.

Thank You for being a tender Father who is patient. As we journey with You today, we trust You to care for us and keep us safe on this new path.

Thank You for caring for us and for guiding us but even more than that for helping us to actually obey Your Word in everything we do. Amen

Once we begin to live our lives in God’s care, the evil one will battle to get us back into insanity and chaos.  One of the great tools he likes to use is guilt and shame around our past so that’s why we now move towards God’s solution for our past. Join us next time for that.
