Meditations on "Recovery"

When we say in Step 12 that we have had a spiritual wakening, we are describing the impact we have experienced as we’ve completed the first eleven steps.

God created us to live as honourable people – honouring God, honouring others, and experiencing the joy of living as persons of integrity and honour.

Many of the events in our lives that contributed to us becoming dependent on substances or unhealthy relationships were traumatic and caused us to retreat into hiding.

On pages 83-84 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous we read twelve promises that will happen as we diligently work the twelve steps.

How encouraging it is for us to know that God is on our side and God always does what He promises.

Too often dealing with denial is incorrectly focused on the circumstances surrounding the use of our substance of choice or other destructive habits for which we are now seeking treatment and God’s help to overcome.

When we are hoping to attend a scheduled event we often rely on another person to do something that will enable us to get to the event.

Deep pain that results from unfair and unjust treatment by others is the reality of many people.

When we come into recovery we are usually worn and broken and feel wretched, but often we still remain prideful in the way we talk.

Learning to control our tongue is a sign that we are becoming mature in our thinking process.
