Meditations on "Recovery"

Being a phony is an intensely tiring way to live. Giving false impressions and lying to cover up attitudes or behaviours drains us of energy and joy.

"Easy Does It" is one of the most well-known slogans in recovery circles.

An important part of recovery is coming to a truthful view of what happened in our relationships.

While living in addiction we were emotionally unavailable to God, to others, and to ourselves.

In our addiction, many of us had our character shaped through isolation and getting our own way in whatever way we could.

How many of us have fallen to places in life where we never thought we would find ourselves?

I will take time to notice the gifts in me, in others, and in my surroundings and let the rest go.

In just a few hours the new calendar year will be upon us.

Within each personal story of the journey from bondage to freedom is the power of the Gospel to save those who are lost.

I wonder what people said on the day that we were born.

For those of us who live in the northern hemisphere this is the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

We are fast approaching the annual celebration of the birth of Jesus, the one God sent to save us and give us new life.
