Meditations on "Powerless"

Those who make steady progress in recovery are those who remain focused and give careful attention each day to what works.

As we come before the Lord, either alone or together with others, is our mind focused on praising God for all He has done in our lives?

Hitting bottom is the place we reach in our addiction where we finally admit that we have a problem that we cannot solve on our own.

When we determined that we could no longer live in the insanity that was our daily life, we knew we needed to be free from the bondage of our dependency.

When we came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity, what were we expecting to happen?

“I am a walking miracle” is a slogan we often hear said in recovery meetings.

We come into recovery because we recognize we are powerless over addictive substances, people, or things that we have become dependent on to sustain life as we know it.

A common recovery saying is that “you must give it away in order to keep it”.

We are reminded repeatedly in the AA Traditions, the Twelve Step program, and the experience of many, that it is the simplicity and focus of sticking with one primary purpose that inspires us to help each another.

God’s Word often speaks about our enemies and these are the “enemies of our soul.

All of us rely on ourselves to some degree to do those things that are important for life and happiness.

This life we have been given, this new season that is before us, begins with each new day.
