Meditations on "Powerless"

When we admitted we were powerless over our dependencies and our lives had become unmanageable we were, in a sense, like the man robbed and beaten in the parable of the good Samaritan.

The Bible makes it clear that God detests lying. Most of the time we did not speak the truth.

Before we were willing to admit that we were powerless over our dependencies and our lives were unmanageable, there may have been a time when we really wanted to do good but were unable to do so.

"Live and let live" is one of those slogans that encourages us to consider if our desire for control is becoming an issue we need to deal with.

Often, when we come into recovery, we have no sense of why our life problems took us down the road of addiction.

No matter how far away God seems, we can call out to Him and He will always respond.

When we are feeling sick we usually go to the doctor so that we can find out what might be wrong with us.

One of the promises given to us as we grow in our recovery is: No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

When we turned our will and life over to the care of God, we gave God permission to take our unmanageable life and make us new.

Many of us blame God because bad things happened to us when we were powerless to change the situation.

When we struggle to do what is right it can be helpful to remember that God knows about the battle and provides a promise for success with a clear strategy for attaining it, “keep alert and pray”.

Everyday life has it challenges but each day is also filled with many simple pleasures.
