Meditations on "Powerless"

At some point, in the darkness where we lived, we became aware that we were powerless over our dependencies and that our lives had become unmanageable.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

When we get rid of something bad in our lives, we need to fill the vacancy with something good.

A common recovery saying is that “you must give it away in order to keep it”.

Y Repentance involves reviewing the things we have done and admitting that we have not lived up to our own moral standard, let alone to God’s standard.

Disharmony in our family, addiction, poverty, loneliness or other conflicts may be part of our life’s story.

When we wake up from the haze of our addiction and reflect on the harm we have caused in our relationships or when we make an inventory of our character defects and deep sorrow overwhelms us because of what we have done, the question to ask ourselves is, "Am I saddened enough by the painful mess I am in to be willing to come to God and admit that I am powerless over my self-willed ways?

To be flexible means that we are adaptable and willing to yield when circumstances require short or long-term change.

As we remember service men and women who served our nation in times of war and other national troubles, it's good to be mindful of words from the Bible that prompt us to remember God's help in our time of need.
