Meditations on "Powerless"

Jesus told a story of a man who was hiring day laborers.

The following words were written thousands of years ago and yet they are an accurate description of many of us before we came into recovery.

For all of us there came a time when we could no longer avoid the realization that our lives were a mess.

We don’t really know God until we know that God is love and that God’s love for us is unfailing.

Often in relationships where one or both parties are in some form of addiction, physical or emotional abuse exists.

Everyday life has it challenges but each day is also filled with many simple pleasures.

Each of us who have given our will and life over to the care of God may doubt that God has the power to help us overcome our powerlessness over our dependencies.

The Bible makes it clear that God detests lying. In our addiction, most of the time, we did not speak the truth.

Life in recovery is about living in truth, and the truth is that on our own our hearts are vulnerable.

“I am a walking miracle” is a slogan we often hear said in recovery meetings.

Some of us slid into destructive and addictive lifestyles out of a desire to have friends and companions to belong to.

What do “people, places, and things” have to do with living well with God in recovery today?
