Meditations on "Powerless"

Hitting bottom is the place we reach in our addiction where we finally admit that we have a problem and that we can't solve it on our own.

Recovery begins when we come to our senses and affirm that we are powerless over alcohol or some other substance or habit and that our lives have become unmanageable.

In the middle of the Bible, just after Psalms, we find the book of Proverbs which contains all sorts of practical wisdom about everyday living.

A common recovery saying is that “you must give it away in order to keep it”.

Two days before Christmas and it seems like it's crowded and busy everywhere.

…The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child!

Each Sunday we normally reflect on a Psalm, which is a poem from God's word.

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once.

Those of us who are recovering from the mess of our lives know there is a hunger and thirst within us for something more than what life has offered us so far.

When many of us waken up from the haze of our addiction and reflect on the harm we have caused in our relationships, or when we begin to make an inventory of our character defects, a well of deep sorrow may overwhelm us.

To be flexible means that we are adaptable and willing to yield when circumstances require short or long-term change.

As we remember service men and women who served our nation in times of war and trouble, it's good also to be mindful of words from the Bible that describe God's help in our time of need.
