Meditations on "Recovery"

As we come to the end of this year, a year filled with both accomplishments and failures, it’s time to reflect on the events that brought growth and joy in our journey with God in recovery.

Many of us face a new year wondering about the unknown.

Most people who are in recovery want to learn from the experience, strength, and hope of others.

After all the hype and preparation for Christmas we now get back to quieter days before the New Year celebration.

The very heart of God is enduring love, and nothing will ever change that.

The celebration of Christmas encourages us to give gifts to those we care about.

For those of us who live in the northern hemisphere this is both the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

In the Bible we read of many festivals that the people of Israel celebrated because God had intervened on their behalf.

How are we expected to know what is right? How do we know what is wrong?

Many of us choose to rely on our own understanding of how life works and what is best for us.

I wonder what people said on the day that we were born.

Many people who choose for life with God in recovery think they can live any way they want as long as they attend meetings, complete an honest set of steps, pray on occasion, and don't pick up.
