Meditations on "Recovery"

Today is Labour Day and tomorrow many students, and some of us, return to places of education for a new season of learning and maturing.

Have you ever been for a hearing test? The tester gives instructions to the person being tested and then puts that person with earphones on into a cubicle.

Just for today I will take note of one helpful thing God is saying to me and seek to behave accordingly.

As we seek through prayer and meditation to get to know God better through the scriptures, we frequently find that we also get to know ourselves better.

We seldom have a day when we are not worried about something.

When we accept Jesus’ death as payment for the sins we have committed, we are freed from the punishment of sin and are given a fresh start.

Becoming strong and steady in our recovery requires that we keep on listening and learning from God's Word and from the experience, strength, and hope of others.

In the middle of Jesus teaching about how to treat our enemies he inserts one of the most famous principles of human interaction called The Golden Rule.

Steadily moving forward in recovery is not easy. As we awaken out of the haze of years in addiction our minds are often filled with memories of things done to us and things we have done to others.

To be suspicious can be good or bad depending on the circumstances.

When we struggle to do what is right it can be helpful to remember that God knows about the battle and provides a promise for success with a clear strategy for attaining it, “keep alert and pray”.

Feelings cannot always be trusted. They often point us to an incorrect perception of who we are, who God is, and what is happening in our circumstances.
