Meditations on "Recovery"

Today we hear so much profanity in music, in movies, on TV, on the street, and in print that it almost seems it’s the normal way to communicate.

What does speaking honourably have to do with recovery?

It’s amazing that after all the chaos and heartbreak of our self-absorbed life in addiction that we could be so changed that we now passionately love God and His laws.

When we admitted that our lives had become unmanageable, many of us entered into detox and then treatment programs where we found support, and daily we grew stronger.

From cover to cover the Bible is filled with wisdom and good direction for our lives.

As we recover from addiction, it is emotionally draining when we come to the place of dealing with the harm we have caused others.

Sometimes, when it particularly suits us, we make excuses for not telling the truth.

In recovery circles there is a saying, “You are only as sick as your secrets.

Most of Jesus’ friends abandoned Him before He died on the cross.

Jesus is risen from the dead! Because He lives, we also shall live.

God was reaching out in love to each of us long before we knew Him.

In some recovery circles we affirm this “Life Affirmation #2” on a regular basis: My life is of great beauty and infinite value.
